24k Bold...

Nowadays it seems that everyone wants a piece of the action and seeing an unmodified Honda in California is less likely than coming across a girl with a pair of sunglasses that don’t cover half her face. Let’s face facts, any time you mention a modified import, the first car that comes to mind will more than likely be a Honda Civic. The continual popularity of the platform proves that it is the people’s choice, whether it is the almost cult-like EF or the CTR. One would assume that anything bearing the “Civic” moniker would automatically gain...

Love Child...

Splashed across the lower portion of the windshield on Ernie and Jenny Pillado’s ’02 Civic Si is a banner for the crew Show Stoppers USA. More than a simple affiliation sticker, the labeling also accurately reflects what happens when people-car nuts or not-see the hatchback for the first time. The Si literally has the power to stop others in their tracks, and Ernie illustrates his point with a funny little anecdote on the day we interviewed him for this article. “I pulled the car out [to drive around] today, and I got pulled over,” he starts....

Big Impression...

CHRIS LUANSING’S S2000 GENERATES SCORES OF TUNING AND DETAIL IDEAS, NOT TO MENTION 322 WHP. Chris Luansing first sat in an S2000 back in 2003. The impressions made at that moment were so profound that they would carry the La Crescenta, Calif., native on an odyssey that ultimately led to the custom creation you see here. But his was not a direct flight, and there were ups and downs along the way. “My previous car has just got stolen”, Luansing says, in a still-grieving voice. “I was looking for another car. I was at a dealership and there was a...

The Devil Wore A Black Dress...

During high school, Robbie Perez was rarely phased by the loud thuds and metal-on-concrete sounds that any one of his Civics made as he pulled into a driveway. He was also indifferent to the fact that, due to a series of makeshift anti-theft tactics, Perez often couldn’t even fire up his own ride. These are the sacrifices the die-hard enthusiast makes. Those of good looks, performance and security quickly take a back seat to those of reliability, drivability and practicality. Things changed for this Burbank, Calif. Resident when he graduated from high school. With a...

Been Around the Block – Turbo DC2...

If you think about it, the import scene hasn’t been mainstream for very long. Compared to the domestic muscle car market, our scene is a baby. It wasn’t too long ago when you could count turbo kit manufacturers on one hand and getting a new exhaust meant driving down to the local muffler shop. Nowadays, cruise any dragstrip and you’ll spot Civics, WRXs—hell, even Accords—staging next to Mustangs and Camaros. The American auto manufacturers struggle to keep their heads above water while the Japanese keep cranking out powerhouse after powerhouse. It only serves to...

The CRX Story – Leon’s 91 CR...

By Aaron Bonk Photography: RodRez We discovered two requirements in building a well-executed, magazine-worthy H-car. First, an infinite amount of money will never guarantee it. Second, it can’t be done without some foresight and a vision. Over the years we’ve witnessed H-car buildups that embrace these truths and some that don’t. Lucky for us, most do. Los Angeles resident Leon Casino had a vision for his right-hand-drive ’91 CRX before he could even claim the car as his own. The plan was simple yet counterintuitive: to enhance every performance...
